Boeing engineers bothered by lack of bonus in contract

SPEEA members also mention medical costs, vacation concerns

Posted at 2:37 pm by Michelle Dunlop

Although their leaders Boeing’s contract the nod of approval, some SPEEA members are voicing concerns over the proposed four-year labor deal.

Negotiators for Boeing and the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace agreed on a tentative contract last Friday.

Since then, though, engineers and technical workers have put their opinions on the contract online, commenting on stories and responding to polls.

Here’s a list of frequently noted concerns:

  • No cost of living adjustment (COLA)

  • No bonus

  • Increased medical costs

  • No increase in vacation

  • Insufficient change to overtime rates for engineers

  • Inadequate “guaranteed” wage increase

Which of the above bothers you most? And is it problematic enough to vote to strike?

We asked in an ongoing poll whether SPEEA members would accept or reject Boeing’s offer (not whether they would strike).

Here are poll results as of this afternoon:

Reject Boeing’ offer: 70 percent (453 votes)

Accept Boeing’s offer: 30 percent (193 votes)

Total votes: 646

The poll will close Dec. 1, when SPEEA members' ballots are due.
