EVERETT — Police are investigating a frightening series of events that came after a 9-year-old Everett girl was hit by a car, then carted away by the driver, a stranger who later dropped the injured girl at a store along Highway 99 in Shoreline.
The girl reportedly was in a crosswalk walking to school just after 8 a.m. near the intersection of Pecks Drive and Cady Road when she was struck, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
The driver then took the girl into his car in what witnesses said appeared to be an attempt to drive her to a nearby hospital, Goetz said.
But the driver couldn’t find an emergency room, despite asking at least twice for directions, and wound up dropping off the girl at a convenience store in Shoreline where paramedics were called.
“It’s hard to say what was going through this person’s mind,” Goetz said.
Shoreline police were summoned as well as emergency medical officials.
The girl was rushed by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of what appears to be non-life threatening injuries, Goetz said. Her parents have been contacted.
Police now want to talk to the driver, a man described as white, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, and in his late 20s or early 30s.
Witnesses told police the man was driving a gray or silver Dodge Charger with Washington plates including the number “500.”
Investigators want the man to call police and tell them what happened, Goetz said.
“He can call the Everett Police Department or 911 and leave us a number or location to call him,” Goetz said.
