Did your hands grow overnight? Or did your paper get wet this morning on your doorstep and somehow shrink like a T-shirt in the dryer?
Nope. The reason the print version of The Daily Herald looks different today is because it’s on a crash diet. We cut the width of the paper by 1.5 inches to — according to the note to readers on the front page — reduce paper, waste and costs.
Maybe you’re an online-only reader and this change doesn’t affect you. But if you subscribe to our paper, I’m sure you immediately noticed the difference. Our designers tweaked some things too, so in addition to being thinner our paper got a makeover. Next up for The Daily Herald: a spot on America’s Next Top Model.
So how will the changes affect our prep sports coverage? Not much, really. We’ll still have our weekly high school sports page every Tuesday with the usual feature story, Timeout , notebook, Athletes of the Week and 5 events to watch. And our day-to-day coverage of breaking news and big games should remain as comprehensive as ever.

Now it’s time to talk basketball. Yesterday I posted a link to the Tacoma News Tribune’s new boys basketball rankings. Here are the TNT’s latest girls hoops rankings.
Quick thoughts: Archbishop Murphy and Snohomish are still holding strong at No. 2 in the 2A poll and No. 4 in the 4A poll, respectively. I hope to see both of them play in the next few weeks, when the postseason heats up.
