ARLINGTON — It now looks as if an 88-year-old Arlington man held in a Mexican prison may not see daylight until Friday.
Edward Chrisman’s family on Tuesday were told by his lawyer that a Mexican federal court decision on the case may not be revealed until the end of the week. An emergency hearing Monday was supposed to provide speedy resolution.
“He was supposed to be released immediately,” said Shannon Perkins, Chrisman’s granddaughter. “I don’t understand.”
Chrisman has been held in a Mexican prison for a month, his family says unjustly. Edward Chrisman apparently contracted pneumonia in prison and his family fears he won’t survive the ordeal.
Mexican police arrested Chrisman and his grandson on Jan. 8 in the border town of Algodones. Police allege the Chrismans tried to pay young girls to pose nude for photos.
Chrisman’s son, Gary Chrisman Sr., on Tuesday spent the day in the waiting room of a municipal delegate for Algodones. The delegate had promised to take him to the Mexican prison and help secure his father’s release, Perkins said.
