For most local baseball fans, today is all about the excitement building up to the Mariners home opener.
How great will it be to see and hear the ovation marking the return of Ken Griffey Jr.? Seattle’s game against the L.A. Angels is set to start at 3:40 p.m. It should be an electric event.
I’m sure a lot of our area prep baseball players would like to watch the M’s game, but most of them will be busy practicing or playing games of their own. Here is a list of today’s prep baseball contests.
Edmonds-Woodway at Lynnwood, 3:30 p.m.
Mariner at Glacier Peak, 4 p.m.
Jackson at Kamiak, 4 p.m.
Mountlake Terrace at Meadowdale, 4 p.m.
Shorecrest at Shorewood, 4 p.m.
Everett at Arlington, 4 p.m.
Marysville-Pilchuck at Cascade, 4 p.m.
Stanwood at Monroe, 4 p.m. at Marshall Field
Snohomish at Lake Stevens, 4 p.m.
Concrete at Shoreline Christian, 3:15 p.m.
In case you missed it, here is an article we published today about the surprising Lynnwood baseball team, which is tied for first place in the Wesco South. Herald Writer Nick Patterson explains how the Royals have gained confidence after enduring many forgettable seasons.
And how about the Wesco South? Entering today’s action, seven of the division’s 10 teams have a winning percentage of at least .500. Lynnwood and Jackson are tied for first place at 6-2. It will be fun to see who eventually emerges as the champ in this talent-packed, balanced league.
