Police seek clues in trash can fires at area schools

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – Police are hoping someone might have information about a series of garbage can fires at area schools.

Officers are investigating three separate fires, two near Mountlake Terrace High School and one near Cedar Way Elementary, Mountlake Terrace police Sgt. Doug Hansen said. The fires all occurred during the past weekend. They were easily extinguished, but could have been worse, authorities say.

Now, police want to prevent arsons that could cause more damage.

“We would encourage any citizen who may have witnessed anything to call us,” Hansen said.
