STANWOOD — The North County Regional Fire Authority board of commissioners has scrapped plans to ask voters to renew an emergency medical service levy this fall.
“We are sensitive to how the economy is impacting our community,” said Fire Chief Dale Fulfs. “We feel it would be better to wait a year to ask for an EMS levy right before it expires.”
The levy expires Dec. 31, 2010.
Fulfs said he plans to use the next year to talk to the public about how the fire authority is funded and how it spends taxpayers’ money. He also hopes to resolve any confusion about the newly-created fire authority.
In 2007, voters approved the merger of Snohomish County Fire Districts 14 and 18. Property tax statements mailed by the county still identify each former district, Fulfs said.
The fire authority serves more than 15,000 residents over 104 square miles in the communities of Bryant, Freeborn and Warm Beach.
