STANWOOD — The Marysville-Pilchuck girls basketball team went on a 17-2 scoring run the last six minutes of regulation, capping a 50-39 Wesco North win and avoiding a Stanwood upset Tuesday night at Stanwood high school.
Stanwood held a 34-33 lead and drained a 3-pointer to take a four-point lead, but then the Tomahawks poured it on.
Andi Adams hit a 3 to cut into the lead, and Becca Lentz hit another 3 to take the lead. Adams later connected on all four of her free throw attempts.
“Those were the two big shots,” Stanwood head coach Dennis Kloke said of the big momentum shift by the two 3-pointers late in the game for M-P. “Then they hit the free throws down the stretch.”
M-P had a decisive advantage from the foul line, with 23 attempts compared to only four from the Spartans.
