MONROE — The Snohomish County Explosion defeated the Salem Stampede 137-119 Sunday night in Game 2 of their best-of-3 National Athletic Basketball League playoff series.
Chris Ferguson led the Explosion with 34 points.
One week after yielding 169 points to the Stampede, the Explosion were able to push the series to a decisive Game 3 behind a much more physical defensive effort, said Explosion guard Chris Weakley, who added 31 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The game featured eight ties and 13 lead changes. Snohomish County led 67-60 at halftime. That lead grew to as many as 21 points in the second half.
Salem cut the second-half difference to six points behind the play of Michael Tabb, who finished with 42 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists, but that was as close as the Stampede could get.
Game 3 is tentatively scheduled for Sunday in Salem, Ore.
