WOODWAY — As early as next summer, crews will start working on improvement projects for streets in Woodway.
The Woodway Town Council approved a $390,000 six-year street plan during its July 6 meeting.
The transportation improvement plan involves repairs and overlay, as well as widening one street.
Streets included in the plan are: Algonquian, Bella Coola, Makah, Nootka and Chinook roads, Pine Street, the Woodway Park Road bridge and Eagle Lane. Some of the roads haven’t been paved in 30 years.
State and city officials ranked the condition of Woodway’s streets and roads before determining which areas would be included.
Woodway officials earmarked funding for road repairs while putting together the town’s budget. Funding sources for the projects include property tax and state fuel tax revenues.
Mayor Carla Nichols said working with county officials helped control costs — the county included Woodway’s projects when it went for construction bids.
Nichols said it’s important for officials to keep an eye on the condition of roads. Once roads start to deteriorate, the costs to repair them can spiral out of control, she said.
“We’re in preventive mode right now,” she said.
Plans include widening and repairing Algonquian Road ($125,000) as well as repairing and overlay for both Woodway Park Road bridge ($26,000) and the stretch of Eagle Lane from Timber Lane to 114th Avenue W. ($46,000).
