Boeing workers tout senator's work in latest Murray ad

A new campaign commercial for Sen. Patty Murray features Boeing workers from Snohomish County lauding her for helping the company in the competition for the lucrative aerial tanker contract.

The 30-second ad filmed at the Future of Flight center at Paine Field is scheduled to start airing today on television stations statewide. Murray's campaign did not disclose how long it will run.

In 2008, the U.S. Air Force awarded a $35 billion contract to the joint venture of Northrop Grumman and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. of France, the parent company of Airbus.

The Boeing Co. successfully challenged the award, forcing another round of competition. Boeing and EADS submitted their new bids earlier this month.

In the ad, workers credit Murray with helping keep Boeing in the running.

"The jobs were going to France," says Chris Louis of Edmonds. Other workers follow: "If Patty Murray hadn't stopped it, the federal government was giving a $35 billion dollar contract to a foreign company."

This is the second television commercial from Murray who is seeking re-election to a fourth term.

The first had veterans praising the incumbent's efforts on behalf of those serving in the military.

It went on the air a day after the American Action Network, a political committee led by current and former Republican lawmakers, started running commercial criticizing Murray for increased spending, higher taxes and excessive regulation on small business.

This commercial showed a woman in tennis shoes stepping on the backs of a man, a woman and a child.
