The Seahawks just concluded a cold, damp morning practice, and afterwards we had a quick chat with Matt Hasselbeck. Naturally the conversations shifted to the what Bill Leavy said yesterday when he admitted he blew a couple of calls in Seattle’s Super Bowl XL loss. And while Hasselbeck said he’s still not entirely over the loss, pointing out that “I’m still a little upset about losing my high school state championship game,” he did give Leavy credit for owning up to the mistakes.
Hasselbeck said that Leavy officiated Seattle’s game last season in San Francisco, and cleared the air a bit before that game.
“All the officials we have in the NFL are stand-up guys, and Bill Leavy is no different,” Hasselbeck said. “… It’s a game, it’s not a perfect science.”
As for today’s practice, Hasselbeck was one of the veterans given the morning, as was T Ray Willis. With Willis sitting, Russell Okung was in with the first team offense even though the plan was to wait a week or so before throwing him in there.
CB Marcus Trufant had a second straight standout day, and continues to look more like the Pro Bowler he was in 2007, and not the player that struggled with a back injury last year.
“He’s one of our best players,” Hasselbeck said. “We need him to play well.”
