TULALIP — More than 250 non-profit groups who received donations from the Tulalip Tribes in the past year were honored by the tribes this weekend.
The tribes’ annual “Raising Hands” banquet was held at the Tulalip Casino Resort Hotel on Saturday.
The tribes donated $5.3 million to groups in Puget Sound area, many of them in Snohomish County, who applied for funds in the last half of 2009 and the first half of 2010, spokeswoman Mytyl Hernandez said.
The funds were distributed from three different sources: the Tulalip Casino and other gaming operations; the Quil Ceda Village commercial center, and a general tribal fund.
Categories included education, health and human services, environmental, public safety, housing and cultural preservation.
Local groups receiving funds include the Adopt a Stream Foundation; the Marysville Food Bank; Arlington Kids’ Closet; Senior Services of Snohomish County and the Snohomish Arts Guild, among many more.
