Arlington: Bingo to benefit scholarships

The Arlington Dollars for Scholars program plans to host its annual Family Bingo Night on Saturday at Presidents Elementary School, 501 E. Third St., Arlington.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the bingo games start at 6 p.m.

Prizes are to be presented for the best Hawaiian costume and for the Bubble Gum Blowing contest.

Proceeds benefit scholarships for graduating seniors from Arlington School District.

Arlington: Welcome sign proposals sought

The Arlington Arts Council is asking for proposals from local artists to create gateway welcome signs at the five major entrances to the city on Highways 9, 530 and 531.

Details are available by calling city parks director Sarah Hegge at 360-403-3448.

The deadline is Oct. 15, so the proposals can be displayed at the art commission’s “Fall into Art” auction on Oct. 17.

A portion of proceeds from the auction will go to the welcome sign project.

Marysville: Master gardeners share tips

Washington State University master gardeners plan to share their garden tips at an event in Marysville on Oct. 10.

The Growing Groceries Community Conference is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marysville Middle School, 4923 67th St. NE.

The event is $10 for those who register, $15 at the door if space is available.

Topics include classes on food gardening; composting techniques; soils basics; making structures for vertical gardens, starting a community-school garden and other subjects.

Participants should bring a lunch.

Church to bless animals on Sunday

A blessing of the animals is planned for 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 4312 84th St. NE.

All creatures are welcome. The event will be held outdoors, weather permitting.
