Gov. Chris Gregoire said this afternoon that a special legislative session will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday to deal with the projected $1.1 billion budget deficit in the state.
Gregoire set the date after Democratic and Republican leaders of the House and Senate told her they have an agreement that will address about $784 million of the shortfall in the current year’s budget, which covers state spending throuh June.
Here is an overview of the $590 million in cuts and transfers agreed upon by the lawmakers. This one-pager is also attached as a PDF.
Leaders say another $200 million will be across-the-board cuts Gregoire previously ordered.
Lawmakers say they hope to be done with their work in a day.
