LYNNWOOD — As the New Year approaches, the Meadowdale boys basketball team is beginning to get comfortable with each other and that could be a scary proposition for its Wesco 3A opponents.
On Tuesday night, Tyce Tallman dropped in a game-high 20 points to help lead Meadowdale to a 61-40 win over Wesco 4A opponent Marysville-Pichuck. The second quarter was the difference as the Mavericks outscored the Tomahawks 19-3. Junior guard Torin Dooley had nine points in the quarter.
The win gave Tallman and co. their third consecutive win by 19 or more points in the last two weeks. After dropping a close league contest to Glacier Peak on Dec. 14th, the Mavericks look to have turned the corner.
“Well I think early in the year, having five new starters from last year … it was just getting guys to play with each other,” Meadowdale head coach Chad McGuire said. “Tonight we had balanced scoring with multiple double-figure scorers and that is always a big key for our success.”
The Mavericks had four players with 10 or more points, led by the senior Tallman who is averaging 20 points per game over the Mavericks’ modest three-game winning streak.
“Tyce is playing with a lot of confidence right now,” McGuire said. “He is learning how to play at the varsity level and he’s playing very well.”
Against the Tomahawks Tuesday, Tallman shot the ball well and utilized the transition game to get some easy baskets in the lane, according to the Mavericks coaching staff.
The other Mavericks to reach double-figures were Spencer Linton with 12, Dylan Buck had 10 and Dooley who finished with 13.
Ryan Shannon paced the Tomahawks with 11 points.
