SNOHOMISH — The medical van that provides free medical services to people without health insurance is making its second stop in Snohomish later this week.
And by next month, Puget Sound Christian Clinic, working with local nurses, doctors and other volunteers, hopes to begin sending the van to Snohomish once a week, said Diane Steward, the clinic’s executive director.
The 40-foot blue-and-white van will be parked at the Cross View Church, 604 Avenue C, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Up to eight patients can be treated and appointments are required.
Basic medical services will be offered, such as treatment for colds and flu, high blood pressure and diabetes, she said.
A coalition of six local churches helped organize church members to provide medical services: Cross View Church, First Presbyterian Church of Snohomish, St. John’s Episcopal Church, St. Michael Catholic Church; Snohomish Faith Assembly and Snohomish Community Church.
“They worked very hard,” she said. “The pastors in the community worked well together. They got people in their churches involved.”
About 50 volunteers have signed up, including eight doctors and 15 nurses, Steward said.
The van is scheduled to go back to Snohomish once more this month on Jan 27.
When it begins making weekly trips to the city next month, up to 14 patients can be served on each visit.
The organization has run a free clinic in north Seattle since 2003, serving thousands of patients.
It hopes to begin providing the free medical services in Bellevue later this year and eventually add stops in south Snohomish County, Steward said.
