Dunshee bill seeks to break up the House districts

State Rep. Hans Dunshee, D-Snohomish, wants each of the 98 members of the House of Representatives to have their own district with its own unique boundaries.

Dunshee has introduced House Bill 1092 -- which you can read here -- that would have the redistricting commission draw up 49 legislative districts and then divide each of those into two House districts.

The bill describes it this way:

"Each legislative district shall be divided into two house districts, denoted as house district A and B, with a single member of the house of representatives being elected from each house district. The senate shall consist of forty-nine members, one of whom shall be elected from each legislative district."

If this became law, Washington would no longer have three people sharing a legislative district. Instead, every one in the Legislature would wind up with their own unique alignment of constituents.

The bill has been referred to the the State Government and Tribal Affairs Committee.
