EVERETT — A man was hospitalized Thursday after he was struck by a car on southbound I-5 in north Everett.
The man apparently ran across the highway to avoid being arrested for failing to provide identification, said trooper Keith Leary with the Washington State Patrol.
The man had been in a vehicle and was stopped for a speeding violation. A trooper was trying to arrest the man when he ran across I-5 and was hit just south of 41st Street SE. He was struck by a Ford sedan driven by a Marysville man, according to a State Patrol memo.
The man who was struck was later identified as Michael Pyles, 22, of Ferndale. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He was listed in serious condition late Thursday night and was still being checked out in the emergency room, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The accident was reported about 3:40 p.m. and affected traffic for hours as troopers investigated. No other injuries were reported.
The State Patrol investigation was ongoing Thursday night.
