King’s girls move on to 1A quarterfinals in Yakima

SNOHOMISH — Behind the efforts of Joclyn Kirton and Karly Hibbard, King’s came out on top in a loser-out 1A state regional girls playoff game on Saturday at Glacier Peak High School.

Hibbard, a junior varsity player who was brought up to the varsity team at the start of the playoffs, scored eight points. Junior post Kirton led King’s with 19 points, 18 rebounds and three steals.

“She was a huge presence on the offensive end and the defensive end,” said King’s head coach Dan Taylor about Kirton. “She knew she needed to step up when we needed scoring.”

“She (Berendsen) has stepped up big time recently,” Taylor said.

King’s plays Freeman, the No. 1-ranked defending champion, at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Yakima SunDome.
