MONROE – The City Council won’t be changing its decision about Walmart.
On Tuesday night, the council upheld with a 5-1 vote its previous decision of approving the development agreement that allows for the store to be built at the N. Kelsey territory.
Last week, two petitions were filed asking for a reconsideration saying there was an error of law or fact in the process.
“No rule of law has been overlooked to merit the council to change its decision,” Councilman Kurt Goering said in a written statement.
Both petitions argued that Walmart’s proposed design is not allowed in the area, that public records were not made available in a timely manner, and the city did not follow its own laws, among other things.
Goering said the agreement does not violate any city’s guidelines, time for public input was extended and that city staff followed public records laws.
He, along with council members Tony Balk, Tom Williams, Margie Rodriguez and John Stima voted against allowing the reconsiderations. Councilwoman Bridgette Tuttle voted in favor. Councilwoman Patsy Cudaback was absent.
