EVERETT — Everett police marine rescuers were called out Tuesday night after a boat carrying six people capsized off Harborview Park in Possession Sound.
An infant was taken to the hospital because of exposure to the cold water, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. The infant is about two or three months old and was conscious but cold when crews arrived.
The other people pulled from the water were a woman, two men and two children, Goetz said. The capsizing was reported just after 7 p.m.
Connie Mitchell’s deck faces the water. She heard the people in the water yelling and called 911, she said. She often hears yelling coming from the park, but this time, it didn’t sound right.
She could see the boat overturned, but the sun made it hard to see what was going on.
“It was a very helpless feeling seeing them out there, because you couldn’t do anything, and the bay is cold,” she said.
She and a neighbor grabbed blankets and life jackets and ran to the water, but crews had everything under control, she said.
The vessel that capsized was believed to be a power boat, and it was believed to have sunk Tuesday night, Goetz said.
The cause of the capsizing remains under investigation by Everett police.
