It took until July for the Puget Sound region to snap out of cool and wet doldrums. Data show the weather has been exceptionally gray and dismal — by even Pacific Northwest standards. March brought unrelenting clouds and rain. April, May and June weren’t much better. Weather experts blame the
blasé spring on La Nina, the spawn of cooler-than-normal temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean.

A convergence zone
Spring’s crummy weather was even wetter in some stretches of Snohomish County that are home to a convergence zone. The area between north Seattle and Everett is the meeting point for air flow that splits around the Olympic Mountains. When the air streams meet, they can create pockets of heavy showers and snow.
