As the chair of the Snohomish County Republican Party, I am fully aware of the personal bias towards Republicans that liberal columnist Jerry Cornfield exhibits on a continual basis. I have chosen to largely ignore him.
His Sunday column, “Snohomish County redistricting moves along quietly” is one that deserves a response though, as his unprofessionalism crosses the line. In speaking to redistricting he must attack Larry Stickney, calling him a “bleeding heart for the conservative movement who in 2009 ran the unsuccessful campaign of Referendum 71 to limit the rights of same sex couples” and speaks for the Tulalip Tribes who could do better by investing heavily into someone more to their liking than Stickney.
Perhaps Cornfield can explain what Referendum 71 has to do with redistricting, and perhaps leave it to the tribes to select candidates.
Cornfield has taken the discussion about redistricting and transformed it into yet another personal attack on a very fine person who has done nothing but work for the betterment of this county. It is another example of Cornfield trying to undercut and damage someone he sees as being possible competition for Democrats.
I will be sending a series of opinions and editorials where the Democrat actions are compared to what they told voters they’d do. We’ll be fact-based and professional and there’s the difference. Our debate and observations will be professional and informed about issues, not personal attacks, which appear to be a staple of Jerry Cornfield. We’ll frame the debate in a fashion that readers can understand and react to by making reasoned decisions about where their votes are cast.
Bill Cooper
Snohomish County Republican Party Chair
