EVERETT — The Snohomish County Council passed a resolution Monday urging the Boeing Co. to build the re-engined version of its 737 jet at Paine Field.
The resolution called for regional support to build the 737 MAX at the Snohomish County-run airport. In the airport’s favor, the resolution lists 80 acres of available land next to the main runway.
Boeing has been assembling its 737 in Renton for decades, but says it isn’t sure where it will build the new version. Boeing executives say they’ll make their choice in the next six to eight months.
Council members Brian Sullivan and Stephanie Wright co-sponsored Monday’s resolution, which passed 5-0.
The council also is working on a contract with the Washington Aerospace Partnership to help pay for a competitive analysis of the aerospace industry. The study would try to compare how Washington measures up to other states in meeting the industry’s needs.
The contract would give $25,000 to the partnership, which is led collectively by the Puget Sound Regional Council, the Washington State Labor Council and the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
