Michael Washington Jr. is headed to Princeton.
The Oak Harbor forward didn't waste any time in deciding where he wants to spend the next four years of his life, announcing last Thursday on Twitter that he has verbally committed to play basketball for the Ivy League school.
Washington Jr. took his official visit to Princeton over the weekend of Sept. 24 and said he came away impressed. "I like everything about it," Washington Jr. said on Monday. "The people were great, the coaches were great."
Washington Jr., who said he was also getting interest from American University, Harvard and Colgate, felt that Princeton was the best fit both academically and in terms of basketball. He is currently holding down a 3.98 grade point average and plans on studying economics.
Having spent his early childhood in Maine, Washington Jr. is actually heading back to the east coast for school. He has a number of relatives on that side of the country as well, including his grandparents in Maine.
Washington Jr. averaged 18.3 points per game for the Wildcats last season and will be a central figure on Oak Harbor's boys basketball team again in 2011-12.
