Prep boys basketball: Oak Harbor 52, Meadowdale 46

OAK HARBOR — Oak Harbor’s defense did its job, and while they may not have kept the Mavericks’ Torin Dooley completely in check (21 points, four 3-pointers, six rebounds), it was enough to help the Wildcats beat Meadowdale 52-46 Tuesday night.

“It was a good defensive battle on both sides of the ball,” said Oak Harbor head coach Mike Washington. “They must have run a 2-3 zone, and so did we. We tried to limit their touches and shots, but Torin Dooley, he’s a player.”

When asked about Meadowdale, Washington praised the Mavericks and said he was very happy with the way his team played tonight. “We played without a starting forward, Kevawn Brooks, who may have broken a wrist … we had three kids in double figures.”

Those three kids were Drew Washington (10 points, including three 3s), Matt Burgoyne (11 points, eight rebounds) and Michael Washington Jr. (19 points, five rebounds).

“Now we have to get ready for Mountlake Terrace, who is really good,” said Washington of Thursday’s matchup between the Wildcats and the Wesco 3A-leading Hawks.

Spencer Linton added 11 points and Brian Feldhaus had 12 for Meadowdale.
