LYNNWOOD -- A dominant shutout performance from Shorecrest starter Ted Hammond would have been enough to win this battle for the top of the Wesco 3A standings on its own, but combined with a Meadowdale staff that walked 12 batters, the result was an 8-0 blowout.
Hammond pitched a complete game, struck out 12, gave up just two singles, and did it on short rest, having started last Friday against Shorewood.
"Hammond really dominated," said Meadowdale head coach Bill Hummell.
"I thought we had a lot of really good at bats, we got a lot of good swings, but he was throwing three pitches for strikes. When high school pitchers do that, they are going to get a lot of people out."
Meadowdale sent three pitchers to the mound and struggled to get outs.
"The issue for Meadowdale today was our pitchers' inability to throw strikes," said Hummell. "We walked 12 guys. You're not going to win very often when you strike out 12 times then walk 12 guys."
At Meadowdale H.S.
Shorecrest 201 100 4--8 6 0
Meadowdale 000 000 0--0 2 2
Ted Hammond and Michael Rigby. Bill Sullivan, Ethan Coffey (4), Torin Dooley (6) and Brian Marty. WP--Hammond (2-0). LP--Sullivan (1-2). Records--Shorecrest 5-1 league, 7-2 overall. Meadowdale 4-2, 4-5.
