GOLD BAR — A candidate for an open position on the Gold Bar City Council is scheduled to interview with the Snohomish County Council on Monday afternoon.
The meeting with Elizabeth LaZella is set for 1 to 1:30 p.m. on the eighth floor of Snohomish County administration building east, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
In a letter of interest, LaZella identified herself as a retired respiratory therapist who has lived in Gold Bar since 1994. She was the only person to apply for the vacancy, open since former City Councilman Charles Lie resigned in January.
Gold Bar, population 2,075, has a five-member City Council. The successful candidate will serve out the remainder of Lie’s term, which expires in 2013.
Under state law, Gold Bar had 90 days to fill the council vacancy, but the city’s efforts failed to generate any interest. State law allows the county to assist in the search and help select an appointee, if the city requests help. To be eligible, a person must be a registered voter who has lived within Gold Bar city limits for at least one year.
