Q: What is your schedule like?
I am taking AP music theory, intro to digital arts, AP literature, German 4, women's ensemble (choir), government and environmental technology. I wanted to be able to learn other languages besides English, and I found German fascinating.
Q: Do you have career plans yet?
I am planning on going into music, vocal performance. I also plan to get an undergraduate degree, then do graduate work in music.
I would like to be a vocal performer. I would also like to work in musical therapy, and I am also pondering the idea of teaching.
I am not sure what college to apply to yet. I am in the process of deciding, but I am not sure where exactly.
Q: What kind of singer do you want to be?
I want to help people in some way. The goal is to become a professional singer, but the journey is what matters.
The plan is majoring in vocal performance, and with that major you are set up to be a singer, but I am not looking for fame or fortune. I am looking to bring joy into somebody's else life, and hopefully have music touch them and brighten their day.
Q: How long have you been singing?
I have sung in choirs, but I really started getting serious about it during my high school years, especially last year. I made it to the All-State Washington Music Educators Association competition, and it was a really unique experience.
Q: What kind of music do you most like to sing?
Classical music. I really like the structure of the music, and it just has beautiful phrasing. It could be soothing, and it could be intense. There are different sides to it.
Q: Do you have any other talents?
I moved from Vermont when I started high school, so I stopped dancing. I had danced for 12 years before, primarily lyrical, contemporary jazz, but my main was tap dancing.
I attended a national competition in 2008 in New York City. I received platinum for my solo, and I also did a trio in which we received platinum, and in large group we also got platinum.
Q: I heard you received a membership to the National Society of High School Scholars. Can you explain what it is?
It's a league of students who have achieved high academic standards during their high school years. It opens different scholarship opportunities that wouldn't necessarily be there without being a member. It can make college more affordable. I think it's a nice opportunity to be part of larger group that has an academic focus.
Q: What do you do for fun?
I run. I run every day. I am part of the cross-country and the school track team. I am a long-distance runner. We run every day depending on our training schedule. I started the fall of my freshman year.
Q: What else do you like to do?
I have a younger sister who is a junior in the same high school, so we may go biking or hang around with each other. We also go visit our grandmother in Bellevue to say hi.
