Grizzlies’ senior forward Allie Weathersby has been there for four of them.
After playing on varsity since her freshman year, Weathersby’s high school basketball career came to an end Friday morning in a 49-44 loss to University in a 3A state tournament consolation game.
“It’s tough for a freshman, at any time, to break the barrier and get into that varsity level and she did,” Glacier Peak head coach Brian Hill said. “In our second year, which was tough, because we really didn’t graduate anybody after our first year because we had no seniors that first year.
“… She’s been around for a lot of the early success and the tradition -- if you can give us tradition in five years -- that we’ve already kind of established. And she was able to bring that and keep it going here with this new, young group.”
Weathersby said she thinks she’s leaving a Glacier Peak team that is set up for success for years to come.
“It’s been awesome to watch," she said. "Now Glacier Peak High School is really well known, and they can get to the T-Dome every single year that they want to.”
The senior, who is looking at playing basketball at a community college, scored 19 points in her final high school game Friday. She said it was a “privilege” to close her year out at the state tournament and that she's going to miss her teammates most of all.
“It’s really said. It’s terrible,” Weathersby said. “I’ve never been this close to a group of girls ever in my life. … I’m hoping that I can play college basketball next year because I want a team like this again.”
