Prep softball: Arlington 7, Marysville Pilchuck 5

MARYSVILLE — The Arlington softball team took a six-run lead into the bottom of the final inning. Then, Marysville Pilchuck started to make the game interesting.

The Tomahawks scored four runs in the seventh before Arlington closed the door, as the Eagles defeated MP 7-5 in a nonleague game Wednesday afternoon at Marysville Pilchuck High School.

“I have total confidence in our team,” said Arlington coach Dan Eng. “My pitcher was getting a little tired in the seventh there and a leadoff walk always comes back to bite you. … Then of course they get the hit at the right time. But the team went and shut it down.”

Hayley Fields (5-0) got the win for Arlington on the mound. The senior struck out 12 batters and scattered three hits in the complete game. Fields helped herself out on offense as well, batting 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Tomahawks (4-3) were led by Haley Fritz who hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to get Marysville Pilchuck on the scoreboard.

The Eagles remained a perfect 5-0 as they look forward to their Wesco 4A North league opener against Monroe on Friday.

“My kids are really excited. They can’t wait to start the home opener,” Eng said. “It’s supposed to be a beautiful day and they’re really looking forward to playing some softball in the sun. Especially against a really good Monroe team.”
