JUNEAU, Alaska — An organization that says it’s the nation’s largest online Latino advocacy group is calling for U.S. Rep. Don Young to resign.
Young, an Alaska Republican, has said he “meant no disrespect” when he used the term “wetbacks” to describe migrant workers in a radio interview this week.
Arturo Carmona is executive director of Presente.org. He says Young’s explanation of his comment doesn’t go far enough, and he called on Young to resign.
Carmona says the term touches a “deep sensibility” within the Latino community and ventures into an area “we felt we surpassed in the 21st century.”
