A landslide derailed the last three cars of an Amtrak train just before 9 a.m. Sunday, but the cars remained upright and no one was injured.
The slide was between the Port of Everett’s south terminal and lower Howarth Park, said Rick Robinson, fire marshal for the Everett Fire Department.
The fire department responded with three ladder trucks and several medic units, but no one required treatment at the scene, he said.
Three rail cars remained blocking the tracks. The rest of the train was detached and continued on to Mukilteo to discharge passengers, Robinson said.
The slide was enough to “tip the rails over,” he said. “Not the cars, just the rails,” Robinson said.
It wasn’t immediately clear how long the tracks would remain closed.
More details about the effect on travel will be posted as they become available.
