ALGONA — South King County residents are concerned about a chemical that seeped into the area’s groundwater and soil from a nearby Boeing Co. facility for 30 years until the 1990s.

KOMO News reports residents of Algona shared their concerns about a solvent chemical at a town meeting Thursday night.

In a section of Algona, testing showed contaminated groundwater. In some instances, the chemicals involved can release vapors into the soil enough so that if they enter buildings they could build up within a confined space.

Washington State Ecology Department’s Larry Altose says the agency asked Boeing to conduct indoor testing in 23 homes where the vapors could be released, although that’s unlikely.
