MONROE — A bear cub was spotted Tuesday afternoon at a Monroe park, and police are asking people to be careful in the area.
A utility worker spotted the cub about 1:45 p.m. at Rainier View Park at 19921 Rainier View Road SE, on the north end of town.
The worker snapped a picture of the cub. It climbed a fence and ran across Chain Lake Road into a wooded area, according to a Monroe Police Department memo.
The mother bear was not spotted.
Officials from the state Department of Fish and Wildlife were headed to the area Tuesday afternoon.
The park is popular with families with young children, police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said.
