A key aerospace industry group on Wednesday endorsed the governor’s plan to consider potential Boeing 777X projects to be of “statewide significance.”
“This designation will expedite the permitting process to allow Boeing to build a composite wing manufacturing facility in Everett,” Melanie Jordan, executive director of the Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance, said in a statement. “PNAA is extremely supportive of this effort.”
Boeing could formally launch the 777X later this year. The Chicago-based company hasn’t indicated where the 777X will be built.
Gov. Jay Inslee announced last Thursday that he had instructed the state’s Department of Commerce to consider the 777X for the designation. Both Snohomish County and City of Everett officials passed resolutions supporting the move.
“The 777X project is really the gold ring for our region,” Snohomish County Executive John Lovick said in a statement. “We’re working very hard to make sure it happens right here.”
PNAA, which hosts an annual aerospace conference in Lynnwood, represents hundreds of aerospace companies in the region.
