Academy Award winning actor William Hurt manages a spirited performance as Nobel prize-winning scientist Dr. Richard Feynman in the original drama “Challenger Disaster,” which will air simultaneously at 9 p.m. Saturday on the Discovery Channel and the Science Channel.
The engrossing tale reveals Feynman’s struggles to unearth the cause of the tragic Challenger explosion in 1986.
Hurt has enjoyed more than his share of compliments in his long career. But the one he treasures most came from a woman on the subway.
“I made the mistake of looking up and she saw me, recognized me,” he said.
“I thought, ‘Oh, please don’t bother my life. Don’t shout it out.
“Don’t come over here, I’m not responsible for your feelings.,’ Hurt said.
“She didn’t do anything. When her stop came, I thought, ‘No, here it comes.’
“But she just touched my shoulder and said ‘Thank you.’ That was it.”
