Think about how many people you can feed with a 20-pound turkey that may have only cost $1 a pound — a total of $20. Well, John Lovick, Snohomish County Executive, took it a step further again this year with his deep fried turkey auction sponsored by KIRO FM (97.7). John and his helpers donated and deep fried 14 turkeys the day before Thanksgiving at the radio station in Seattle.
At $1 per pound to buy, those turkeys would have cost about $280 — then throw in a few more dollars for oil. But the return on this investment was due to the generosity of the folks who bought those turkeys — with all of the proceeds going to support Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County and the Union Gospel Mission in Seattle. Domestic Violence Services will get a check for over $7,000 — which amounts to a return of $25 for each pound of turkey. Thank you again to John Lovick and friends for making this great gift happen!
