The Tennessee Titans are hiring Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt to be their next head coach.
So why is that relevant to the Seahawks? Well because the Titans were believed to be very interested in Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Titans GM Ruston Webster was the Seahawks’ VP of player personnel from 2006-2009, a period that included Quinn’s first year in Seattle as the team’s defensive line coach, and he reportedly was interested in Quinn.
Going after Quinn would have required a longer wait, however, and perhaps that was a factor in Tennessee’s decision.
There are still three NFL head coaching vacancies, Detroit, Cleveland and Minnesota, which has interviewed both Quinn and Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. So it’s entirely possible the Seahawks could still lose one or both coordinators, but thanks to the Titans decision to hire Whisenhunt, there’s now one less team in the market for a head coach.
