Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1964)

Calling themselves the Lock Smiths, four staff members of the Everett Penney store were making like the Beatles English quartet that was proving the braced set really did appreciate “long hair” music. The local quartet, consisting of Roger Humphries, Norm Totey, Dennis Hopkins and Al Olsen, sported moplike hairdos and carried albums of the imported rock and rollers, before bursting into song.

Associated Sand and Gravel of Everett submitted the low bid of $4,261,511 for paving a 12-mile section of the Everett-Tacoma freeway. The contract called for paving of six 12-foot lanes of roadway from 244th St. S.W. at the county line to Juniper Drive in Everett.

25 years ago (1989)

The Hewlett-Packard Co.’s Lake Stevens Instrument Division had been awarded a Blue Ribbon Contractor Certification by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command. The company received the award for maintaining the highest standards of quality control and on-time delivery in meeting commercial products contracts.

Lynnwood Arms Retirement Center recently changed their name to Westwood Retirement Manor in conjunction with their remodeling. They had also restructured and upgraded their staff in order to raise performance standards.
