Everett lacrosse player Beretta named player of the week

Everett boys lacrosse player Justin Beretta was named the US Lacrosse Washington High School Player of the Week for the week of March 17-23.

The sophomore attackman scored 15 goals in two Everett victories last week. In Everett’s 13–12 overtime defeat of Kennedy Catholic on March 19, Beretta scored six goals and grabbed two ground balls. Two days later he followed with nine goals and two ground balls in Everett’s 13–11 defeat of Lynden on March 21.

US Lacrosse Washington Players of the Week (Week 2): Everett, Curtis, Eastside Catholic, Roosevelt players named

SEATTLE – Student-athletes from Everett, Curtis, Eastside Catholic and Roosevelt High School were named US Lacrosse Washington High School Players of the Week for week 2 (March 17 – 23) of the 2014 high school lacrosse season.

For the boys, Everett sophomore attackman Justin Beretta was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Curtis High School junior goaltender Connor Jackson was selected as Defensive Player of the Week.

For the girls, Eastside Catholic School junior attacker Valerie Vachris was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Roosevelt High School sophomore goaltender Ella Liddicoat was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Beretta, who is homeschooled, is a 2014 Pre-Season All-Wesco/Northwest Conference First Team selection and 2013 All-Conference selection. Beretta helped Everett log two wins during the week, scoring 15 goals.

In Everett’s 13 – 12 overtime defeat of Kennedy Catholic on March 19, Beretta scored six goals and grabbed two ground balls. Two days later he followed with nine goals and two ground balls in Everett’s 13 – 11 defeat of Lynden on March 21.

Jackson, who captains the Curtis High school squad, helped the Vikings secure two wins during the week with stellar performances in goal. In the Viks 9 – 4 defeat of rival Bellarmine Prep on March 17, Jackson recorded 17 saves on 21 shots. Later in the week, he stopped eight of 16 shots in the Viks 9 – 8 win over Peninsula High School on March 20.

Vachris led Eastside Catholic to a pair of wins by filling her opponent’s nets with 13 goals. In the Crusaders 15 – 13 defeat of the Overlake School on March 18, the attacker netted nine goals and one assist for 10 points. Two days later she connected for another four goals as Eastside Catholic downed Mercer Island High School 11 – 7 on March 20.

Liddicoat, while just playing one game, was dominating in goal with 18 saves as Roosevelt prevailed with a 15 – 13 defeat of Bellevue High School on March 18.
