Former Jackson star Brett Kingma has signed a scholarship offer to play for the Western Washington men’s basketball team, Vikings head coach Tony Dominguez announced on Thursday.

“We are thrilled with Brett’s decision to become a Viking,” said Dominguez. “Brett is an outstanding shooter who will allow us to stretch the floor. His experience at the Pac-12 level should be a huge benefit for us.”

Kingma played in 19 games for Oregon as a freshman in 2011-12, averaging 3.1 points per game. He later transferred to Washington State and redshirted his 2012-13 season, before sitting out the 2013-14 season.

Kingma, who was The Herald’s Player of the Year in 2011, was three-star prospect by Scout.com coming out of high school and signed to play for Ernie Kent and the Ducks. While at Jackson he set Wesco and school career scoring records with 2,024 points.

WWU finished 20-8 last year, just missing out on a third straight NCAA II West Regional berth.
