Prep girls tennis: 4A District 1 Tournament

MILL CREEK — Sally Park, who finished fourth at state last season, will return to the state tournament as a district champion after the Kamiak singles player defeated Snohomish’s Caroline Dreher 6-3, 6-1 in the 4A District 1 championship game Wednesday afternoon at Jackson High School.

Angela Moniaga, of Mariner, won the third-place game over Cascade’s Carlie Newman 6-0, 6-2. Moniaga will face the third-place finisher from the Kingco district tournament at Forest Crest Athletic Club at 4 p.m. on Friday.

In the doubles tournament another state participant will return, but this time in a different tournament. Edmonds-Woodway’s Myint-Zu Kyaw finished fifth at state in singles last season. This year, she has paired with Hanna Rehnfeldt and the duo defeated Jenna Gilbert and Elizabeth Norris of Kamiak 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the district doubles championship.

The Lake Stevens doubles team of sisters Erin and Megan Huffman won the third-place game over Jackson’s Zita DaRe and Quinn Michael. The Huffmans will face the Kingco No. 3 doubles team on Friday to attempt to clinch a state berth.
