Two more contracts to help remove debris from the Oso landslide area received Snohomish County’s go-ahead on Monday.
They total nearly $6 million and come on top of the main contract to haul away an estimated 200,000 cubic yards of debris piled in mounds on either side of the mile-wide slide zone.
The county contracts are separate from the state’s work along the Highway 530 corridor.
One contract will pay AECOM Technical Services of Seattle about $4 million to provide spotters to screen material, in case any human remains or personal effects are found. Search-and-rescue crews already sifted through the debris during the emergency response.
Another portion of the contract will pay URS Corp. of Seattle nearly $2 million to inspect the material for proper disposal and monitor other aspects of the process.
The County Council earlier this month awarded the main $6.4 million contract for carting away slide debris to IMCO General Construction of Ferndale.
Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday.
The March 22 slide killed 43 people. One person, Kris Regelbrugge, still is missing. The county called off active search operations in late April.
The county’s costs for the disaster now exceed $25 million. The county hopes federal and state reimbursements will cover up to 85 percent of the expense.
