50 years ago (1964)
The new Everett Post Office at Pacific and Hoyt avenues was dedicated yesterday and would go into full operation tomorrow. Among dignitaries present were Sen. Henry M. Jackson, Mayor Bud Alexander, Everett Post Master Sam Manus and Chamber of Commerce President Bill Klein. Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Mattie gave the invocation.
Charles and Allen Grannell, sons of Clifford Grannell, 1905 7th Street, Marysville, and Miriam Grannell, New York, had enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Both were grads of Marysville High School. They were following a family tradition since their dad was a retired Navy man.
25 years ago (1989)
Lt. Bob Dyer, acting Marysville police chief after the departure of John Turner to take that post in Mountlake Terrace, was now the city’s permanent top law officer. He was chosen from four finalists. Mayor Rita Matheny said Dyer was the best of the candidates and knew the community better.
Lake Stevens couple Glen and Barbara Sherard and their daughters, Tera and Erin, all pitched in loading a years supply of hay for two horses into their hayloft. That amounted to 178 bales worth. The family also had two cows and two dogs.
