MARYSVILLE — A crash that was caused when a man jumped from a moving car near Marysville on Saturday is still under investigation.
The three-car accident was reported about 12:30 a.m. Saturday along Highway 9.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the 27-year-old Marysville man was a passenger in a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 16-year-old Stanwood girl.
Ten people were in the Tahoe at the time.
Police say the man was arguing with his wife, who was also in the car, when he opened the door and jumped.
A Chevrolet Blazer struck the Tahoe while swerving to avoid the man in the road. A Ford Mustang then swerved to miss the Blazer and also struck the Tahoe.
The man who jumped was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with head injuries. He was listed Monday in serious condition in the intensive care unit.
A 66-year-old Granite Falls woman, who was a passenger in the Blazer, had a broken leg and was taken to Cascade Valley Hospital. No other serious injuries were reported.
The driver of the Tahoe was believed to have been high on marijuana at the time of the crash, troopers said.
She was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence and vehicular assault, and later released into her parents’ custody.
There is no specific state law that prohibits people from jumping from moving vehicles, trooper Mark Francis said Monday.
However, doing so causes serious safety and traffic concerns and in some cases may be considered disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
The investigation will be forwarded to prosecutors for review, Francis said.
