I am responding to the letter about Congress, “Contempt for citizens appalling.” This letter chastises Congress for passing a $225 million Israel relief package before leaving for vacation and for doing nothing otherwise. Congress is made of two legislative bodies, the House and Senate. The Republican-controlled House has passed 195 pieces of legislation, 31 of which were authored by Democrats, only to be ignored by the Democrat-controlled Senate. Harry Reid simply won’t bring them up for a vote.
In our past, responsible presidents from either party have at least made some effort to break legislative logjams. They were not always successful, but they led and made the effort. Our current president doesn’t even bother to meet regularly with members of his own party let alone negotiate and broker a bipartisan agreement on anything. He has his agenda and if Congress fails to pass his programs he promises to do it on his own between playing golf, campaigning, fundraising and vacations.
The writer says the Republicans hatred for Obama overrides everything they do. How convenient to always bring up the H word or race instead of facing the fact that they have elected an inept and lazy leader. Like the letter writer, I hope that inept politicians are not re-elected in November and in doing so the Republicans will continue to control the House and win back the Senate so something will finally get done.
