The Seahawks have wrapped up their final practice of the week, and as Pete Carroll said at the beginning of the week, they’re going to be getting back some key players, including two starting offensive linemen, Max Unger and Russell Okung.
“It was great to have Max in the middle there and Russell finished this week, so both those guys will play,” Carroll said. “That’s obviously very positive for us, we’re grateful to have those guys back.”
It sounds like guard James Carpenter, who injured his ankle in last week’s game, won’t be back, however: “Carp didn’t make it back yet. We’ll let you know if anything can change on that. No wait, we’re not going to let you know, to tell you the truth. You’ll find out on Sunday.”
Expect Alvin Bailey to start for Carpenter after starting for Okung at left tackle lats week.
Carroll said backup center Stephen Schilling is “still banged up” and will be a game-day decision, though his status is a lot less important if Unger is able to make it through the day.
On cornerback Byron Maxwell, who has missed three straight games with a calf injury, “He practiced today, got through it all. We need to see how he recovers tomorrow again tomorrow. That’s really a day-to-day shot with him and we really won’t know until game time.”
Marshawn Lynch practiced fully after sitting out with a calf injury a day earlier, and is good to go, Carroll said.
The news on Kam Chancellor, who missed last week’s game with a groin injury, isn’t good. Carroll didn’t rule the Pro Bowl safety out, he didn’t give an encouraging update.
“Kam did not practice again today,” Chancellor. “It’s going to be a game-day decision. He’s going to have to talk us into it at this point, because he wasn’t able to work during the week like we had hoped. So we’ll see. He’s very close to being ready, but we’ve got to make sure we take care of him for the long haul.”
That will likely mean a first-career start for Jeron Johnson, who missed last week’s game with a concussion: “It’s good to have Jeron back. He’s been there in the role of fitting in behind Kam for some time now, so he’s best prepared, and we should really expect him to play well.”
