At the risk of being wrong I will state that the majority of the framers of the Constitution adhered to a formal religion. Yet, they insisted upon separation of church and state in that document.
So why now do we find our government defending and giving financial aid to a country, Israel, that wishes to establish a state religion? Such a state is anathema to ours.
My opinion is not anti-Semitic. A significant number of Israelis oppose their government’s decision to be a religious state. I agree with them.
Now is the time for our government to tell those in power in Israel that they will lose U.S. support, diplomatic and financial, if they pass a law making all others in Israel other than Jews second-class citizens.
This is wrong in the Vatican and in Iran. It is wrong in China and North Korea where the state “religion” is atheism.
